To bed on day three…

Shall we wear the red suit tomorrow?

Shall we wear the red suit tomorrow?

Dinner was just what I needed. A nice Indian buffet, just round the corner from that Singaporean sling serving institution, Raffles.

Am sure my Indian colleagues have had far better, but it wasn’t bland like our UK curry, so I was happy. I like it spicy…

The after dinner speaker was an Aussie lady who worked on the Sydney Olympics at Toursim Australia. She’s not jumped on the ‘consulting’ bandwagon, and has served an impressive 15 years to date with TA.

The Olympics isn’t so much about sport thesedays, it’s all about the $$$. In my book, that makes her staying power all the more admirable.

I had the chance to mix with about 30 of my international colleagues tonight, most of whom I rarely get to see. Video-conference just doesn’t cut it, having the face time with them is invaluable.

I was however, just a little disappointed I didn’t get the memo about the stripey shirts.

People joke that our man in South Africa (a one man outpost for years), got himself a mini-me. A little harsh I always thought, but seeing them pitch up tonight in matching shirts, well, it all fell into place.

Not sure if it was planned, but was every so sweet to see them together…

To bed. Loads to do tomorrow, locked in a conference room to make magic happen. Wands at the ready, fingers steady…

Iain finishes day three moist with antici…… Ach, you get the idea.

Day three: The real work begins…

Aircon is a blighter...

Aircon is a blighter...

Am off to a dinner tonight.

Big Olympic speaker after it, to gee us all up before the work really start in earnest tomorrow am.

And you just thought I was here on holiday, admit it…

Three days in, and am getting the aircon glands (I’m always ill, everyone knows that). Constant aircon, despite drinking gallons of water, means big old neck glands for me.

Must be that. Nothing else I’ve been up to could give me a sore throat…

Iain is off to dinner.

Day one in Singapore…

Wouldn't wast on the London Underground...

Wouldn't wash on the London Underground...

Premium economy? 12 hour flight? I wasn’t amused, but thankfully slept for most of it.

Roberta (my delightful Scottish hostess) kept me furnished with at least 5 or 6 large G&T’s. Got to the stage where I’d buzz (was a night flight), and she wouldn’t even come see what I wanted.

She just brought gin. What a legend. British Airways would do well to promote her…

Got in about 5.30pm, unpacked, ate, and passed out with a gin headache. Oops…

Woke at 3am for the obligatory hour of hoping I’d sleep before dawn, then woke again at 10am just in time for breakfast. Which was immense, the Gallery hotel is way better than the Tripadvisor reviews I read…

Went for a mooch down Orchard Road, shopping, coffee, people watching, luncheon and back to the hotel for some gym time, a disco nap, a little nibble before going out disco dancing tonight. (I hear there are some suitably racous places to get down in ChinaTown).

So what have I learned today?

  • Singapore is still clean. Cleaner than when I was here last if that’s humanly possible!
  • Manchester United seem to be the dominant British brand over here. I lost count after seeing about 843 tops…
  • If it weren’t for aircon, I’d have died around 10.45am
  • There are thousands of coffee shops that can help feed my habit
  • I am irresistible*

Time to hit the gym. I will get that bikini body for summer (2012 at this rate, but the heat does suppress the appetite!).

Day one of Iain on his tours. *And we’ll see if that’s true tonight!
