Feel like dancin???
I had a blinding massage tonight.
Seriously feels wrong having a full hour for just ten measly dollars, but when in Rome….
One thing I was a little miffed by, I never managed to see any traditional Khmer dancing when during my week here.
So post massage, the tuktuk took the scenic route to the restaurant I asked for (good job I haggled up front), and as we swung by the grassy knoll outside the royal palace. My karaoke-dar could hear some singing, and huge crowds dancing.
I asked him to stop for a minute and we wandered over. There were some made up beauties giving it some, and hoards of men around them cutting shapes. That’s the only way I can describe it.
The only time I’ve seen men (or anyone for that matter), dance in a similar way, they were absolutely off their tits in Tintins, or Subway back in the 90′s. A quick dinner, one Beer Laos too many, and it’s time to pack for my early flight to Singapore in the morning…
Iain has rather enjoyed his spell in Cambodia. And could do with a Brummy Thursday night roar soon…
The rain cometh. Hard. And long…

Past two nights, there’s been a brutal 30 mins of rain@530pm.
Then, back to sticky, muggy 28 ish, and that’s it cooler in the evening. Tonight, the heavens opened@730 pm.
Finishing time, tbc. More beer laos for me then. Am rather lucky that the vegetarian restaurant I am in (Chamkar), has two very attentive waiters, and a rather handsome (if skinny veggie) French manager to keep me entertained as long as the heavens are open…
Iain clearly needs no excuse for more beer laos. Even rain has hidden benefits if you know where to look!
Foodie heaven….
So, tonight I find myself in what I think to be the only pure veggie haunt in Siem Reap. Chamkar. This place offers a veggie take on authentic Khymer fare. All I can say, is mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. To start, the ‘marriage must try’. A nutty rich spicy sauce, with a whole baguette for dipping. That’ll be the frog influence then. Outstanding…
On my garcons word, I followed that with the kebab to challenge vegetarianism. It’s sauce was meaty, it’s veggies (and banana), melted in the mouth. Delicate, delicious, and best of all, they stock beer laos. A drink I’ve not drunk since I left Laos a few years ago. Corking trip, amazing sights, and I even made a few lasting friendships to boot.
Absolutely delightfully stuffed, with no room for anything else food oriented. I need to get me an early night before tomorrows multiple templegasms…
Iain is stuffed fuller that a bride on her wedding night (bride not included).
