Half way there…

Travelling is so tiring.

Don’t get me wrong, I know I am just sitting on my arse for hours on end, drinking gin, sleeping and watching movies (Terminator Salvation pap (but ultra fit terminator) and The Hangover funny, but definitely a DVD movie not a see at the cinema), but jeez, talk about drained!

The lounge at Heathrow Terminal four sucked. No ice (for what felt like an eternity), pretty poor food selection, and rancid bubbles. Not a great start. However, the lounge in Bangkok (where I have a two hour stop-over), is corking.

I showered for what felt like an eternity, and am supping a nice pineapple juice to accompany my light snack-ette before boarding for Sydney.

Fingers crossed BA don’t lose my bags. Made the fatal mistake of packing all chargers (Blackberry, personal phone and laptop), into my luggage, and the juice is almost gone from all three.

Seasoned traveller indeed…

Iain’s next stop. Sydney, 7am Monday morning. Just in time for the office at 9am…

What time is it?

No, s’not hammer time. It’s creative review time. …

I get to see the creative brilliance of Henry (HTW) and Kel (Ogilvy), and see what they made of my brilliant brief. If I do say so myself.

Modest, moi?

I cannot tell a lie, t’was a team effort. Really couldn’t have done it without the local insights served up from the local office.

Anyhoo, time for Gin. And some further escapades. Where is Brandon…

Iain is off for some gin. Hangover and posts of pain expected tomorrow am….

Concentration…

Delectable..

Delectable..

Concentration is lapsing today.

When my mind wanders, I need to find me some inspiration quick smart to reel me back in from wherever my sub-conscious mind is trying to take me (which is generally as far away as possible from the task the conscious mind needs to be focusing on).

As you have probably gathered, I don’t mind putting pen to paper. And presenting is never an issue either, barrister or actor were always the future career predictions for me as a youngstrel…

But today, the tasks at hand (a youth campaign creative awards submission and a slightly drier PR trade article), aren’t flowing in their usual fashion. The sort of stuff I can usually churn out with my eyes closed, both hands tied behind my back and a gun pointed at my head (shouldn’t joke, Jakarta at the weekend!), but the irritating voice in my head wants to think about the future.

Still, I digress. Today, I find that inspiration I so badly crave in the shape of the lovely Mr. Brandon Flowers. Not only is he hot beyond belief, but he knows how to write, deliver and convince via his convincing tuneage.

And no doubt inspiration (or something resembling it), will be found at the bottom of a bucket of gin later whilst I deliver a drunken version of Glamorous Indie Rock and Roll (which for me represents The Killers finest work).

Iain is craving gin. Luncheon. And Brandon Flowers. Flexibility on order…

Day five: arrogant cock

Fine line between confidence, and arrogance....

Fine line between confidence, and arrogance....

My ex use to tell me I was an arrogant shit. I knew best. Always. I always disagreed with him (mainly because I knew best?!), and it caused some quite heated mass debates.

We all know I love a mass-debate…

Well, today, I have been truly humbled. And believe me, that is not something that happens too often… An ad geek I may be, but a tourism amateur, I truly am. I work with some magnificent talent, who happen to be based overseas.

Today has been a real eye opener as to how brilliant most of my colleagues are, and how much I can learn from them (not the other way about). And don’t get me started on the youngest guy in the room. Fucking bright, sharp, and wise beyond his years. Reminds me of me ten years ago, but irritatingly a lot better looking.

Still, like the Murphys, I’m not bitter… He’ll have a bright future. Like the one I am waking up into.

Oh, and for anyone that read yesterdays blog i WILL make dinner tonight. Meeting colleagues in the hotel lobby to make sure I get there. Dinner in some swanky Hyatt restaurant that offers proper local fare.

Bring it on. So long as there is a vat of wine (or gin) to go with it….

Iain is going to try and not drink too much more wine over dinner, otherwise tomorrow……..

Day 5: Wine…

Ready for a tipple..

Ready for a tipple..

There’s a running joke in my team. I get to Tuesday afternoon, and about 11.30am, I stop and announce.

“I really need a gin and tonic’…

I hit that wall an hour ago. And thank the lord the working group I am in today has a dear like minded spirit from our India office. She ordered some wine for 4pm as she needed a tipple.

Bring it on. Two more hours of work with a glass of wine. Life overseas rocks…

Iain is on day five. And it just got a lot more civilised…
