Love a good anti-valentine me...

Love a good anti-valentine me...

An endearing pub name if ever there was one…

Lovely night out with a former colleague from London who is loving life out here. Bright boy, no wonder he’s doing well.

Also introduced me to my favourite suburb of Sydney. Homebush. Fully home grown and apparently, they are very proud of it…

Iain is taking pleasure in the simple things, with the mildest of hangovers…

Touched for the very first time? Indeed...

So, concentration was an issue for a spell yesterday. I clawed it back, all deliverables nailed like a virgin on the big wedding night. Back of the net, score, lap of honour.

(Seriously, Dr. Harrison’s ‘how to write an awards submission’ came in rather handy. We’ll win an APMEA DMA, am sure).

Anyway, I wake up this morning thinking those last three bottles of wine were not strictly necessary, but still.

Then I read last nights blog post at 430am. Urgh……

This is why blackberrys can be dangerous in drunken hands, I mean, ‘a day full of possibilities’. WTF?

I was clearly absolutely blotto.

Anyway, am not too pained today. Think my liver is re-aligning to a life of general, sustained, brutal alcohol fueled abuse. And the sun helps. Nothing looks as bad when it’s 32 degrees, sunny and lush outside. And the weather here (although sometimes a little too humid), is nice. I could very easily get use to this…

Still, let’s see where the day takes me. I predict a nice, fatty, lardy lunch. Something with a lot of cheese…

Iain might have a night off the sauce tonight. No really, I might…

Day 8: Public holiday…

Today is the day after Singapore’s birthday.

I don’t know if the country woke up to as big a hangover as I did, but a vigorous workout with an Aussie rugby player helped somewhat, after a little wander round the marina (nice, but plastic). Thing that really impressed me, everything open and still working…

A huge lunch later, more wander. And I wandered down Haji lane. I’d heard big boss man Asia (you know, the one you only get to if you kill little boss men to get to big master boss), mention it to a couple of colleagues.

It’s on top of Arab street, but a world away… A few things I spotted there:

  • an out and proud tranny (gay still illegal in Singapore remember, although largely ignored / tolerated)
  • loads of artists working on the street
  • boutiques with custom made clobber
  • some really hot arty boho types; creatives in motion
  • graffiti!
Grafitti in Singapore...

Grafitti in Singapore...

I quite like graffiti. Not the crap where people use their tags, or draw big cocks on. That’s what blackboards are for!?

Can be a real creative outlet, often for those that have nowhere else to create.

I think I’ll be spending me a bit more time in Haji lane…

Lee Kuan Yew (I believe), admitted that not encouraging creativity was a mistake. The things we do to keep a happy populous eh?
Iain is off for a disco nap…

Day 6: 20′s v 30′s

New balls please...

New balls please...

So…..

I made the conference for 9am after hitting the hay around 5am.

My 22 year old colleague today has ‘food poisoning’. Bless the poor love, he made it down to join us around about 11.30am…

Fuck youth. There’s a lot to be said for your 30′s I say. Ding ding, round two…

Iain is ready for more. Maybe after a little more recovery.

Day two and 9/10: No this, no that, no, no, no…

The dude from Vicar of Dibley would love it here. No this, no that, no, no, no, no (etc).

There are a lot of things forbidden in Singapore.

Chewing gum. Riding a bike along the bridge I was on. Crossing the road anywhere but where the little green man is…

I haven’t been here in a few years, but people do seem to be breaking laws where they previously wouldn’t, which I find interesting…

I decided to walk to China Town tonight. And did what I always do when I am in charge of the map.

Got completely lost.

I ended up wandering round what felt like the council estate rough end of China Town. Very friendly atmosphere, was a bit like Elephant and Castle.

Lots of high-rise tower blocks, some green space (all of which was covered in people eating, drinking, gossiping, the usual), and in this case, a lot of eateries thrown in.

I did get a few looks, but that’s par for the course. I love the tough old birds nobody with any sense would argue with…

I was well armed with the few Chinese sweary words I could remember, so I knew if nothing else, I could charm my way out of trouble…

Best part of the day.

Dirt cheap amazing food, friendly toothless locals. And I also bumped into a rather attractive Malaysian chap called Dave. Imagine my ex (the doctor), crossed with Gareth Gates. Stunningly beautiful, with a little bit of a stutter. Rather endearing to say the least.

I am pleased to report however I am back at base camp, ready to start the week fully refreshed, and not disgustingly hungover as I did today. Time for bed.

Nighty night from your man in Singapore…

Iain is ready for day three. And is somewhat glad he got lost in China Town
