Some random learnings from my deranged mind

The best street I have found on my travels thus far...

I am learning a lot out here. First time I feel I’ve been doing that in a fair old while…

Mainly about Asia, it’s people, history, politics.  Fascinating stuff. For me anyway!

Oh, and how my liver can still withstand chronic bouts of abuse, yet manage to deliver hefty work projects. Maybe it’s something to do with the heat, it struggles with that in Londres…

Still, some of my random ’learnings’;

  • Although people jaywalk, there are plain clothes ticket inspectors that can fine you on the spot
  • It’s illegal to walk around your apartment naked. Lots of expats did it, it offended the local sensibilities. It was therefore, outlawed…
  • Singapore has a big stack of gold buried under it’s CBD. Indonesia’s I believe…
  • Hospital bills here can be very expensive
  • You will be imprisoned if you don’t educate your children. If you can’t afford to pay, the state will help
  • And of course (and maybe most importantly); the language of love, is universal. And boy am I well-tuned. Like Miss Jean Brodie, I am in my prime. And these are my, oh, you get the picture.

Iain is packing for Jakarta. And of course I didn’t. She went by bus. Boom bloody boom…

PS If I get blown up in Jakarta by some freak terrorist incident, it’s been real readers.

PPS for those of you that don’t get the MJB reference, you’ll most likely know her as Professor McGonnagal off of  the Harry Potter filmage. Dame Maggie Smith. Fucking legend in her own true right…

Concentration…

Delectable..

Delectable..

Concentration is lapsing today.

When my mind wanders, I need to find me some inspiration quick smart to reel me back in from wherever my sub-conscious mind is trying to take me (which is generally as far away as possible from the task the conscious mind needs to be focusing on).

As you have probably gathered, I don’t mind putting pen to paper. And presenting is never an issue either, barrister or actor were always the future career predictions for me as a youngstrel…

But today, the tasks at hand (a youth campaign creative awards submission and a slightly drier PR trade article), aren’t flowing in their usual fashion. The sort of stuff I can usually churn out with my eyes closed, both hands tied behind my back and a gun pointed at my head (shouldn’t joke, Jakarta at the weekend!), but the irritating voice in my head wants to think about the future.

Still, I digress. Today, I find that inspiration I so badly crave in the shape of the lovely Mr. Brandon Flowers. Not only is he hot beyond belief, but he knows how to write, deliver and convince via his convincing tuneage.

And no doubt inspiration (or something resembling it), will be found at the bottom of a bucket of gin later whilst I deliver a drunken version of Glamorous Indie Rock and Roll (which for me represents The Killers finest work).

Iain is craving gin. Luncheon. And Brandon Flowers. Flexibility on order…

A plague on both your houses…

Bank number one cut me off. Their fault. Computer said no.

Bank number two, every time I fart my card is blocked. Eight calls today, five for debit, three for credit. Eventually, I manage to get cash to eat and book my bargain of the day with Tiger airways…

A 36GBP flight to Jakarta!

Bring it on (minus the terrorism), I am having it XXL in crazy town this weekend! It did take me 90 mins to book this evening though thanks to the general incompetence and ineptitude of (and I use this term in the loosest sense) ‘customer services’.

That term used to describe the idiots that work there is about as ill-fitting as lycra on a fat sweaty bird in Faces; an Essex institution / nightclub (Delete as applicable) for all you non-Londoner’s.

Penang snippets (other than this) will have to wait till tomorrow when I regain the right mindset to scribe. For now, Nationwide and Lloyds TSB, a plague on both your houses…

Iain hates banks. And just remembered the credit crunch could be that plague. Still, all evil…

P.S. I ask thee, would you accept ‘therapy’ from this man? Of any kind!? This little ad caught my eye whilst pounding the mean streets of Penang…

Now if I needed therapy, not sure I'd start here. Whichever type of 'therapy' is on offer...
